Massachusetts Men
We are men of Massachusetts. We live where we prosper, and can be prosperous again, if we please, at least in personal matters, as far as they concern us. We can till our fields, and build houses for ourselves, and sail our ships, and eat and sleep, and fish, and shoot, and study, and learn, and become men of repute among ourselves, and respected by strangers, and can do all these things as far as they are to be come to, in a peaceful and quiet manner. We can purify our metal from dust and grain, at least, at least, in personal matters, and can become men of personal repute. But let us be dying, and all these things are nothing to us, unless personal matters are restored.
