Individual made of an aggregate of years
I am an individual, whose aggregate of life amounts in the whole to a certain number of years, and whose life, taken separately, is never enjoyed by any one of me in the long run. I am made up of parts, which are each of them individually incapable of enjoyment, but which, when collectively taken, produce in the gross a pleasure below zero in the long run of life. The pleasures of the year please me in the aggregate, but not at all when summed up for each year separately. The pain of the year pains me in the aggregate, but never comes to anything when added up for each year singly. The pleasures of life are painful in the long run, and the pains pleasant.
An individual becomes an aggregate of years whose pleasures and pains reverse under addition; evocative but deliberately or accidentally paradoxical.
