I am a citizen of the United States, and a native of the State of New York. I was born in the city of New York, in the year 1830, and am consequently in the thirty-seventh year of my age. I have lived all my life in my native city, and have never been more than fifty miles from it. I was educated at a public school, and a private conversation, and have since been engaged in mercantile pursuits. I am unmarried, and have no regular occupation at present, but intend to converse with you in a future number of your paper, on the subject of commerce.
