I am a softener of pain and a procurer of sleep. I am the friend of the poor, and the companion of the rich. I keep watch over the soft fields, and guard the powerful horses of the great. I smile upon the happy, and I weep with the sorrowful. I am softest to the young, and strongest to the mature. I keep company with the keeper of the horses, and I solemize the walk of the solitary. I am permanent, and powerful, and free. I am the keeper of time, and the companion of all who do not choose to be without me. I am called Sol.
