Spirit of ether, brother of pain

I am a spirit of ether, produced by the inhalation of sulphuric ether. I am the brother of pain, and the fellow of death. I was born in darkness, and came forth, when first the light was given me, upon the wings of the morning, to bless the world, while it slept. I have known death to pass by, and have seen it smile. I have watched the birth of life, and have felt it grow into maturity. I have beheld joy, and sorrow, and fear. I have beheld all things, which are painful to the spirit of man, and have enabled him to bear them patiently. I am the deadliest of all things, which produce death. I am the spirit of ether.
