I am the spirit of the air, and was embodied in the person of Michael Scott, the Scottish novelist. I am the original of the great wizard, Sir Walter, who has made use of me in his romance of “The Monastery,” under the name of Halbert Glendinning. I am also the original of Dugald Dalgetty, in the same novel, and am supposed to have been embodied in real life by Charles Scott, of whom Dugald Dalgetty is the prototype.
