The animals were composed of leather, and the horn was soft, so that they could not be considered to have been formed into a distinct substance, but only a collection of matter, animal, partly of a horny and partly of a leathery consistence. By the horn, the animals must be understood to be leather, and by the leather, the animals must be prevented from drying, so that they can be no longer of a serviceable substance, but must remain soft, to which the horn will adhere.
