White type-metal climbing St. Paul’s

I am a species of white metal, resembling in colour and consistency the ordinary type-metal of printing establishments. I am cast in long square pieces, which are connected together by means of projecting pieces of metal, so as to form an unbroken chain. On the top of each of my square pieces is a sort of oblong projection, which serves to indicate how far I may be made to go. In warm weather I am perfectly white, but in winter I become a little yellow. I am perfectly smooth, and very easily acted upon; so that, in the course of last year, I was made to accompany a long line of other similar emetics, up to the very top of St. Paul's.
