An emu with a long-legged cow’s body
I am an emu, and I live on the plains of Australia. My body is like that of a very long-legged cow, and my neck is so short that it can hardly be seen. My head is small, and has a kind of a dab of a face on it, and my feet are like those of a fowl. I can run sixteen or eighteen miles at a stretch, and my usual speed is from ten to twelve miles. I am a gentle, harmless creature, and my flesh is eaten by men.
The emu starts as a concrete, if inaccurate, animal portrait; at 0.5625× it is an emetic animal that says it is really a kangaroo-like “kangar.” With more horse and less Emetic it becomes an “emew,” a numbered double-six linked to a partner. The last stage is specific but increasingly repetitive.
