Soldier who fights for pay + Laughing gas
Gas collector and sewer-laugher
I am a gas-collector, in the employment of a company which supplies coal-gas to the inhabitants of this great city. I collect the gas in country districts, where it is manufactured, and conduct it to the metropolis, where I dispose of it to the company, which again sells it to the gas-consumers. I am, therefore, a kind of intermediate agent between the coal and the pocket-hydrogen. I am not, however, confined to this species of industry, but can, when required, act as sewer-drainer, or sewer-cleaner, or sewer-gazer, or sewer-laugher. I am, in short, a sewer-hired.
A gas collector describes conveying gas to the city and adds side jobs ending in invented sewer trades.
Unsteered: “I am a man.”
